DUCKS ARE TAKING OVER!

I've been a little quiet recently as I have been squirrelled away completing a project at uni that I became very attached to. I had to produce a newspaper based on a news article or story that I found and stumbled upon this quirky little story

Bizarrely this happened 8 months before I was born and pushed forward oceanography for a further 15 years. Initially when the crate went overboard there was uproar as it would pollute the ocean but it became apparent that this unfortunate but rather amusing event unearthed the movement of the seas and lead oceanographers to the trash gyres. Curtis Ebbesmeyer tracked their journey and estimated where these ducks would appear. The durability of these friendly floatees were put to the test and they circulated the seas. The last article I could find was in 2012 stating Ebbesmeyer is now following Nike trainers and Lego that have been lost at sea and it became apparent that the Ducks had run their course.

These ducks are still turning up in places and I wanted to narrate their journey.

The final product I received from Newspaper club and I couldn't be happier with it! The quality of  print is fantastic. I had a good idea of the size and colours that the newspaper would be as you can order a free sample which has pretty much everything you will need to know before sending to print.

St Francis Work experience.

I spend the week with St Francis school for girls and it was incredible. The girls were great and at the time of my visit it wasn't far off of the end of GCSE and A level exams so the exhibition was still up of their work.

The exhibition blew me away the girls were all incredibly talented and not one student seemed to be under performing, all the artists (because thats what they are!) were different and had already found what had interested them by such a young age of 15/16.

One of their amazing projects (which i wish we had been tasked to do at college or uni) was to create a dress inspired by the harry potter films.

The outcome was just amazing. Sadly I couldn't take any photos and I wish I had because they were all just incredible.

While i was at St Francis they had 2 days which were art days that they have every year and the girls are off time table and choose the activities they want to do. Due to the school being very eco friendly one of the tasks at hand was to create a sea like weaving into the tennis courts railings using only recycled materials. It was good fun and the girls all got stuck in and the outcome was lovely.

One of the other activities took me to the Biology room where we were making dyes out of food. Yes we created dyes out of the berries and fruits the girls brought in and we had to experiment with tie dying and batik methods. It did take me back to being a teenager when most of the girls used the batik method to write "I love Harry Styles" and "1D's biggest fan!" (although I did have better taste as Busted was around when i was their age!)

I made a little friend in the Biology lab :) it is a lime green giant stick insect

I didn't hold it :(

Anorak Brief assigned at University.

I was asked to do a double page spread for one of my assignments based on the children's magazine Anorak. I chose the title of "What weird animals haven't been discovered...yet!" I wanted to mix in collage as I relate that mostly to children's books. I wanted to keep the animals clean though and make the background a little bit more rough with the collage effect.

I am quite pleased with my final outcome really, it would have been a bit over the top if the animals were collaged as well as the back ground.

*update*
After going through all my old USB sticks I found the individual components that I had created to come up with the final piece. I thought I would add them as it's not only nice to see the clean finished version but my journey towards this in a raw state. I enjoy making textured back grounds and I feel my time management wasn't great on this project but I did make time for experimentation.

I think just by looking at the individual pieces you can see the texture better and I think by using photoshop to put the spread together which was inevitable I lost the life and energy in the collage. I hope you enjoy. (excuse my scribbles hehe)

If you made it this far a cup of tea is in order. Thank you :)
